This event is a joint effort between the Office of the Secretary, Department of Travel and Tourism, Frankfort Convention Center, Kentucky Arts Council and the Department of Parks. The Festival will be held on October 27th!

Events include a
chili cook-off,

pumpkin carving competition and costume contest!

Do you think your chili is the best? Do you have the creativity to win? Bring it on and prove it! Enter your chili, pumpkin or costume for a chance to win a prize...bragging rights are included!

Chili lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

$3 for the first bowl, $2 for each additional bowl per person.

All proceeds from chili sales go to KECC.

Personnel employees should come to work dressed as a scary ghost, your favorite animal, or anything in between!

KY Labor Cabinet 2nd Annual Bass Tournament Results!

The 2^nd annual Kentucky Labor Cabinet Bass Tournament last Saturday was a huge success!

The tournament raised $1400total and $560 went towards the Labor Cabinet’s KECC 2011 Goal! We had 35boats on the water by 7 a.m. After 8 hours of fishing, we had 13 teams withfish to weigh in. Thanks again to Secretary Mark Brown for providing thetrophies, and thanks to everyone who participated and helped out.

The Governor's Office takes the lead!

After the first Coordinator Rally of the 2011 KECC, the Governor's Office is off to an early lead in total dollars raised at $20,787! However, extra special recognition goes to the Department of Agriculture, who raised $16,236, surpassing their total amount raised in 2010 and their overall goal for 2011!!

Congratulations to lead coordinators Kim Kain and Jaclyn Farmer (Governor's Office) and De'Anna Clark (Agriculture), as well as their entire offices, for setting the pace and getting this year's KECC off to a great start!

Thanks also to all the lead volunteers who came out for the first Coordinator Rally last Wednesday. We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday, August 24 at the Department of Aviation building at 9:00 a.m.!

People Helping People: It’s a Kentucky Tradition! The 2011 Kentucky Employees Charitable Campaign kicked off on Tuesday, July 19 with a showcase of Kentucky’s finest! Special thanks to Kentucky musicians Carla Gover and the Downtown County Band for providing the entertainment, and to local personalities Jack Pattie (WVLK 590, Lexington) and Cindi Sullivan (WAVE 3, Louisville) for their inspiring stories. Pictures from the event will be posted soon!

In addition to great music and great food, the History Center offered free tours of the “Kentucky Experience”, and several lucky state employees won valuable state park packages and other Tourism-themed giveaways.

Most importantly, Secretary Marcheta Sparrow announced this year’s KECC goal -- $1.27 million to help our fellow Kentuckians! In the coming weeks, volunteers across state government will work alongside representatives from the six KECC charities to showcase another Kentucky tradition…your generosity! A Message from KECC Chair, Marcheta Sparrow, Secretary of the Tourism, Arts & Heritage Cabinet

Dear Friends,

I am very passionate about our state and I know that you are too. I also take great pride in being a part of state government and working every day to build a better future for Kentucky. That’s why I am honored that Governor Beshear has asked me to lead the Kentucky Employees Charitable Campaign this year.

As Kentuckians, we have many reasons to be proud. From Paducah to Ashland, and everywhere in between, we are blessed with the natural resources and attractions that make Kentucky one of the most beautiful states in the country. But our greatest resource isn’t found in a state park, or even on our horse farms. Our greatest resource is each other. Over the years, Kentucky's state employees have built a strong tradition of giving. We have stepped up to lend a hand to our friends, neighbors, and even our coworkers during hard times. The six KECC charities are part of that heritage. People helping people – that is what KECC is all about.

It’s the college students who give up their spring break to help Appalachian families repair unsafe homes in Eastern Kentucky. It’s the counselors who protect young people from the physical and emotional damage of child abuse, by offering exhausted parents a place to turn when they don’t know what to do. It’s the teachers in quality child care programs across the state who make sure our kids are ready for school. It’s the volunteers who help children with disabilities know that there are no limits to what they can achieve.
It’s you and me.

The KECC is our opportunity, as a family of state employees, to make a real difference for each other, for our friends and for our children. Everyone knows someone who has been touched by these charities. Look through this brochure, talk to a charity representative, and most of all; please make a pledge. Large or small, your gift changes lives. By giving of ourselves, we are proving that Kentuckians stick together.   “People helping people” is just part of who we are – it’s a Kentucky tradition.
